How To Play:
- To play this game, first you need to press the 'Start
the Game' button.
- This action initializes and positions all the bars (rings) in the starting mode.
- Each colored bar represents the golden ring. It turns to
GOLD when you put your mouse over it:-) Click the bar
you want to move.
- You can only move the bar on the top of each tower. If you click any other bars, nothing will happen.
- Each cell represents a tower in a different location. Now, click the 'Move Here' button on the location (tower) you would like the bar moved to.
- You must follow this rule: No larger bar can be placed on
top of a smaller one. This constitutes a legal move. If you follow this rule, you'll see the bar being moved from one place to
another. If you do not make a legal move, nothing will happen.
- If you complete the game successfully, you'll see congratulating messages. You will also be shown the total number of moves you made.
- The minimum number of moves is 25-1
for this case, which is a total of 31 moves. 5 is the total number of rings.
- You can also see an automatic game played by pressing the button ' Show Me How.'
Legend of Towers of Hanoi:
The legend of the Hanoi Tower says that monks at a Hindu temple
were given an assignment by God to move 64 gold rings from one tower to another.
There were three towers. The rules were: 1. Move only one bar at a time. 2. In any move, one cannot place a larger ring on top of a smaller one. God told the
monks that this world will end at the time that all the golden rings have
been completely moved from one tower to the other.
Assuming the rule is followed, it takes 264-
1 moves at minimum (The very best play moves the rings in this number of moves.). Don't worry, there are still many long years to go (somewhere around 250
billion years) before this world will end... Well, maybe not! God may not have factored "Global
Warming"into His calculations!
History of Tower of Hanoi:
The game, 'Tower of Hanoi,' was in fact created from scratch by the French
Mathematician, Edouard Lucas, in 1883.
